Designated Giving

As indicated on your 2010 envelopes, if you want to designate an area of giving other than our Current Expenses, you should place the amount in Other and indicate the special area.  If you are in the Simply Giving program, you can designate giving on a monthly basis.  At our annual meeting, the congregation voted to remove ELCA General Fund from our budget. In order to give to the Synod General Fund you must designate it on your envelope every time.  The areas of Designated Giving other than Current are: NW Synod ELCA General Fund, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Hunger  Local: Parking Lot, Memorial Fund, Organ Fund, Building Fund, Vacation Bible School, Bible Camperships, Abuse Shelter.

FIRST COMMUNION CLASS is on Sunday, March 28, after the Worship service. The youth will learn about Communion, watch Communion Bread being made, decorate their own Chalice, and enjoy a lunch of sloppy Joe’s! On Maundy Thursday, April 1, during the 7PM Worship service they will partake in their First Communion.  For more info, sign up at the Welcome Center or call Jody at the church office—354-3790.

Vacation Bible School theme was voted on and the theme is……………HIGH SEAS EXPEDITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Argh!! The dates this year are June 7-11.  The decorating committee will have their first meeting on Sun, March 14 @ 9am.  More info to follow.

NEEDED: Sunday School Teachers!! Please share your time and talents by signing up in the Narthex for either leading or assisting in teaching our children about God.  Lessons are already planned and ready to go!

Sr. High Bible study will start again after the Lenten season.


YouthQuake is Mar 19-21, 2010 in Bloomington, MN this year.  The registration is $75.00 and due to Jody ASAP.  If financial assistance is needed, speak to Pastor Paul or call the office at 354-3790. Also, we need one more female chaperone, so if you are interested let Jody or Pastor Paul know.

Summer is coming!!  Luther Point Bible camp dates for this summer are as follows:
**Youth entering 3 or 4 grade—June 27-29. The deposit is $55.00 and is due March 29.
**Youth entering 5 or 6 grade—June 27-July 2. The deposit is $110.00 and is due March 29. 5 & 6 graders have the option of going for a ½ week this year!!  August 4-6 are the days, the deposit is $55.00 and is due March 29.
**Youth entering 7-9 grade—June 13-18. The deposit is $110.00 and is due by March 29.  If you need financial assistance please speak with Pastor Paul. More info is on the welcome center, if you have any questions call the church office 354-3790.
***NEW THIS YEAR*** Luther Point is offering a “Day at Camp” for youth entering 1 & 2 grade. The date is August 5 , 9-3pm and the cost is $30.00. The deposit is $7.50 and is due March 29.  BUT that’s not the good part!! The Sr. High Youth Council voted to pay the deposit for the first 6 youth to sign up!!! You might want to hurry to the Welcome Center and get your child’s name on the list. (and say thanks to the youth council)

Jr. High (6, 7 & 8th grade) Confirmation is on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm in the Trinity Fellowship Hall.  It’s not too late to join all of the fun activities that we have planned!! Call the church office (354-3790), or just stop in!

WOMEN @ TRINITY NEWS

WOMEN @ TRINITY (W/ELCA) QUILTERS DESPERATELY NEED WHITE SHEETS and colored material!!

The Birchwood Christian Women will join Rice Lake’s Women’s Connection at Lehman’s for brunch on Tuesday, March 16.  Reservations by March 13 to 719-0010.


The Equal Exchange Coffee Program sponsored by Lutheran World relief isl now available here at Trinity.  Check out the expanded selection of Equal Exchange coffee, tea and cocoa mix products made possible through the support of W/ELCA.  We now have whole coffee beans, an expanded selection of ground coffee as well as several types of tea and cocoa.  Cash is good or checks can be made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church Women.


Women's Bible Study will not meet during the winter months.  Our study of the first half of Max Lucado's book He Still Moves Stones has been a blessing this year.  Plan to join us in May when we will continue with the same book.  Watch for the date in the May Journey.

Quilting takes place on Mondays from 9:30am-2:30pm.

FELLOWSHIP

PIZZA AND GAME NIGHT, Thursday, March 11 @ 6pm.  Brought back by popular request, come join us for a pizza supper and game night in the Fellowship Hall.  The variety of pizzas will be baked in the kitchen ovens, and the variety of games will be many.  This is a lot of FUN....please join us!

OUTREACH

Sunday, March 7 is the date
- Hear first-hand what happened when the earthquake hit in Haiti, what's happening now and how we can make a difference in the recovery.  Julie Blackaller, a Birchwood resident, friend and neighbor and Missionary to the Savior Of All Ministries and Orphanage in Haiti is on hand to share her experiences with us.  A free will offering will be taken to help the orphans.

Remember to keep putting together those Health and Sewing Kits for Lutheran World Relief.  Now, more than ever they are needed.  Instructions are in the back of the W/ELCA Handbook.  Kits can be brought to Church anytime and put in the pink baskets at the Visitors Center.

Just a reminder; the Parish Nurses have all sorts of medical equipment for home use available for the asking and for as long as you need.  A list is on the Outreach bulletin board in the Narthex.  Just call ahead, a nurse will meet you at their office to fill your needs.

NEIGHBOR 2 NEIGHBOR is a Thrift Shop in the basement of the Birchwood Village Hall where clothing, bedding, toys and household items can be obtained at no cost or with a free will offering.  At present the shop will be open Monday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 PM.  Additional volunteers are needed so that the shop can open more often.  Please call Morris Gillett 715/790-8328 with questions.  The Birchwood area Food Pantry is located in the lower level of the Senior Center on 110 Euclid Avenue.  They are open from 1:30 – 5pm on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month. Health Kits
A health kit can help women, children, and men who are refugees and must flee their homes quickly and often do not have time to pack essential items. Each kit should include the following items:   1 hand towel, 1 wash cloth, 1 toothbrush, 1 5-7 oz. toothpaste, 1 bath-size bar of soap (any brand), 1 comb (wide tooth preferred),
1 metal nail file or nail clippers with file attached, 6 Band-aids (preferably ½” -  ¾”)
o    Please – wrap all items in the towel, tie securely with a ribbon or yarn.

Sewing Kits
Lutheran World Relief holds sewing workshops and after school home economics programs for young girls, women and men.  In the Ivory Coast, young girls who are Liberian refugees learn to sew.  In Angola, women and men use sewing kits to help learn a trade and earn an income. Each kit should include the following items: 3 yards of 44/45” cotton or a cotton blend fabric or 4 yards of 36” fabric, 1 package of needles for hand sewing, 1 spool of matching thread, 1 card of buttons.
o    Please - wrap sewing notions inside fabric and tie with yarn or a strip of fabric.


MUSIC

Trinity Cantata Choir rehearsal is @ 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings.  Please consider joining us – your voice is needed!  The Cantata will be performed on Good Friday, Apr 2.

Trinity Choir rehearsal is @ 8:30pm, Wednesday evenings (until the Cantata is finished) & @ 9:15am on Sunday mornings that they sing during Worship.

AREA HAPPENINGS

The "Meal from the Heart" will be served in accordance with the Soup & Sandwich Suppers served before the Lent Services each Wednesday @ 5:30 pm, beginning with Wednesday, Feb 24.  Check the flyers around Birchwood for specific place.  See you there!

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
is holding a workshop regarding 2010 Roth IRA changes.  This will be held on Tues, Feb 23 in Hayward, WI. Information is on the Welcome Center.


Do you — and the person you care for — need a break?  Check out the new Respite Care Program at the Birchwood Senior Center.  Every Wednesday, from 9 am - 2 pm, your loved one can enjoy various activities, exercise, snacks and a hot lunch while you can spend a little time on yourself.  According to Florence Evitch, Acting Director of the Senior Center’s Respite Care Program, the program costs $20 with donations available to assist in paying half of the cost if needed.  Each respite visitor has a  personal volunteer to work with them, one on one.  Call Florence at 354-3001 to register for this program — it’s a gift to your loved one as well as to yourself!

Home Meal Deliverers are desperately needed by the Birchwood Senior Center.  If you can help with delivering meals even one day a week, please call Florence Evitch at 354-3001.  Meal Deliverers need to be available from 9 AM - noon.
